Latent Semantic Indexing
Latent semantic indexing (LSI) also called as latent semantic analysis is a technique invented at bell laboratories to test relationship between two set of related documents by comparing its synonyms, polysemy, grammar, verbs and overall content and then ranking which one is better.
Now according to Google’s new algorithm panda which is made to stop spamming and rank those websites in search results which actually have good content, starts using LSI technique.
Often we must have seen those websites have keyword stuffed in their content and meta tags rank on top positions but websites having good content but keywords not stuffed rank below spammers. If you use keywords in your meta tags and content, do not stuff keywords either put some synonyms or something relevant to services you offer. For example:- If you have a website of lawyer and want to target lawyers in Miami or criminal lawyers in Miami then along with lawyers include attorney and attorneys in meta tags and content.
You can check it out by observing this image.

Darkened results are those results which Google takes into considerations when showing results. Here Google is considering divorce, attorneys and lawyer in search results.
Here’s a formula to check on which keyword to use other than targeted keyword. Have a look at this image.

You can check for any keyword by using this formula and you can use Google keyword research tool to check more relevant keywords with their search volumes.
This is how Google checks which website contains more relevant content with more synonyms, polysemy and compare with other websites who deals in same fields.
